Monday newsletter 1/4/11 and assignment update

General
I didn't get this done yesterday, because I couldn't remember how to get to my blog sight. I did today.
First of all I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and are having a happy New Year. I had a very good Christmas. I was able to spend some between Christmas and New Years with my family in Missouri. My brothers their wives and my nieces and nephews and their spouses came from Georgia, Nebraska, and Texas to my brother's place in Missouri. I also want to thank all of you for your gifts. Your thoughtfulness is much appreciated. Hopefully you enjoyed tasting the cookies your child made. The extras were enjoyed by MCREST, they also used our uniquely decorated tree for their Christmas tree. We are keeping our tree up till Epiphany. I need to turn in STARBASE information this week. If anyone else could pick up students at 2:00 o'clock, that would be great. Mrs. Hecker can drive in the morning, but can't in the afternoon. We could use on more driver over all if anyone is available.

Work
We are getting back into the grove this week. Friday memory is John 6:51 found on page 53 in the religion book. Monthly Memory for Jan. is the First Petition, the 2 parts of the Second Petition and the first part of the Third Petition. It is due Jan. 31. We are finishing up the Christmas stories this week. The book report topic for Jan. is an animal story book. That is a book where an animal is the main character. The English test we took before Christmas was returned on Monday and you either need to sign it or send in a note. We are working on the rest of the chapter now. We are back into Social Studies doing explorers. Science we are starting chapter 16 on the space unity. It coincides with some of the things we do at STARBASE.

Sports
Don't forget tomorrow is the official day for turning in uniforms for basketball and cheerleading after school. I think next week Tues is the day for soccer and volleyball uniforms if you haven't turned them in yet. So parents your child will be just a few minutes late in getting out of the building tomorrow. There are no 5th and 6th grade sports till spring track.

Other
The 5th grade is involved in a 5-8 spelling bee. The class got the list today. They will have a practice classroom spelling bee on Friday during spelling class. We can have up to 10 people representing the class. It is a volunteer basis or by special encouragement if Mrs. Meseke or I feel your child should really try to participate. The spelling bee is next Tues. Jan. 11 in the gym at 11:30. If your child chooses to participate you are welcome to come and watch. The winner will represent Trinity at a region spelling bee. We are have the Talent Show again this year. Information will be sent home tomorrow (Wed) about auditions. The Talent Show is Feb. 11.
The end of the 2nd quarter is Jan. 14. Re enrollment starts Feb. 1 for next year. Be watching for information, open enrollment is March 1.
That is all for the newsletter
