Monday newsletter 2-28-11
General
Another month is gone already. I and the 5th grade class are doing chapel this Wed. you are welcome to come and worship with us at at 8:20 am on Wed. This week is also the Book Fair. We previewed books today and we are going to buy on Thurs. You can also purchase books for your child before that if you wish. They are here after school. There are also some adult books that you may be interested in. Friday night is the faculty vs 7th and 8th grade boys and girls basketball teams. It should be an exciting evening. I have decided since I am officially a senior citizen and out of shape that I won't be playing in the game. I will lend moral support but not physical support. Next week is Lutheran Schools Week. There are dress down days each day and Special Persons Day on Friday. For Special Persons Day the person they bring needs to be out of high school unless you send in permission that they can miss their classes at their school. If you of the parent approve the absence from school then it is ok with me, but send or email me a note so I know.
Work
Friday's memory is Heb. 4:16 on page 71. There will be a spelling test on Friday and some type of project. My math class will be having a test on Thurs. and I think Mr. Anders' class has a test either tomorrow or Wed. The solar system project is due next Monday. The missing work from the midterms needs to be turned in by Wed. If it isn't done by then, those assignments will become F's. March's Monthly Memory is the 5th, 6th, 7th and the Doxology (Conclusion). The March book report topic is a mystery book.
Sports
The last home basketball game is tomorrow so after school study time will end at 4:00 pm.

Today there were a lot of assignments but they are not all due tomorrow.

Reading - WS 101 comprehension for the story due on Mon. in cursive

Writing Workshop - finish final copy for the story they are working on.
Memory - no memory tomorrow but they should work on their Monthly Memory which is due on Monday

Happy Valentine's Day. I hope you have a day and the rest of the year filled with love - Love from others and know you always have God's love with you. Thank you to those of you who shared valentine's with me. The taste buds will like it, but my waist may have a problem with it. I guess that means I'll just have to work it off. Today was our last STARBASE day. The kids have many things they have received from STARBASE that was sent home today.
Check and review the things, you will be able to see the different activities we did. The booklet should show you their recorded data. Thank you to all of you who drove or stayed as a chaperon. Parent - teacher consultation slips will sent home tomorrow if a conference was requested. Please contact me if the time does not work. I used every one's first choice time frame. Thurs. and Fri. are half days and no school next Mon., Tues., and Wed. Winter break - now that it is warming up. It is also Presidents Day on Mon. Midterms are being prepared for Wed. If you want a paper copy please email me or send a note with your child. Otherwise they are posted on Fast direct. You can also respond by email that you reviewed the midterm.

We have our last STARBASE session on Monday so don't forget to pack a lunch with a drink. It also is a casual/dress down day. If they want to wear jeans they need to bring a dollar, if they want to wear a different shirt it is another dollar. The STARBASE shirt is considered a school shirt on STARBASE days. We will exchange valentines after we get back.

Reading - they received information on how to do the book report for Feb. They have two sheets a general information sheet and a format sheet for a friendly letter.
Social Studies - they have to color a map it is due on Tues.
English - Write 8 - 15 sentences using a list of 15 nouns each noun needs two adjectives. They have a sheet with a list of adjectives they can use, but there are many other adjectives that are possible. This is due next Thurs.
Writing Workshop - they have to have their rough draft typed by next Tues. It should be double spaced and they should use Times New Roman font.
Spelling - we took the test today and they need to turn in their project tomorrow.
Memory - the memory is next Mon. we moved it from Friday
STARBASE is tomorrow. Don't forget to pack a lunch with a drink. They can wear their STARBASE shirts with regular pants and regular tuck in the shirt.
Talent show dress rehearsal is tomorrow, they need to pack a costume if they are wearing one for the rehearsal.
Talent show is 6:30 tomorrow night and I heard there is a special surprise act that won't be in the dress rehearsal.

Math - my class has corrections for lessons up through 64 and lesson 65 should be ready for tomorrow. Mr. Anders class also has corrections.
Religion - WS 29 about the tabernacle due for tomorrow
Reading - write a poem using the format of either poem on page 248 or 249 due Thurs. The poem must have a rhyming scheme and rhythm
Social Studies - WS 37 due Tues.
Science - WS 1 and checkpoint 1 due Wed.
English - WS 1 front and back cursive due Thurs.

Notes will be sent home tomorrow about the upcoming parent-teacher conferences. This sessions is by teacher request or parent request. Please read it over and respond accordingly and return it by this Friday. STARBASE is this Friday and then the last session is Monday Feb. 14. We will exchange any valentines when we return on Mon. The Talent Show dress rehearsal is on Friday the 11th when we return. The dress rehearsal will start around 2:00 and we will come in on the end of it. Friday night is the Talent Show at 6:30 pm. It usually lasts around an hour or so. The t-shirt orders for the "Big Fish" shirts needs to be in by Friday. They will be one of the special dress days for Lutheran Schools Week and if they don't have a shirt they won't be able to participate in that days dress activity and will need to wear regular school dress.
