assignment update 12-17-10

Hello to anyone out there who may be checking this.
First of all I hope all of you have a Blessed and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

There are a few things that you need to know
Math - my class should work on corrections if they didn't get them done before break.

Extra - The upper grades are involved in an academic talent festival at Lutheran High North in March. There is a religion component in the program. The upper grades work with Pastor Hoft learning about the religion topic. This year the topic is Gospel harmony and the life of Christ. This will start after Christmas. Over vacation Pastor Hoft asked that all the students do a family tree for as much as you know. This would be grandparents, great-grandparents and also uncles and aunts. Mrs. Buss, who is the faculty coordinator, told the class today, but they may not remember.

Thank you for any gifts that were shared, I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness.
This will be the last blog till next year - Jan. 2011

English - we covered lesson 7 today in class and there will be a test on Chapter 3 lessons 1-7 tomorrow.

Memory for Friday - everyone chose a verse from Luke 2:1-20 or 4 selected verses from Matt. 2. They will recite their verse before we start our Christmas party on Friday. I will listen to how well they know it and asses a grade at that time. I would hope they all know it so we can hear the Christmas story before we party. They should look at the verse the comes before their verse so they know when they need to say theirs.

Reading - those students scheduled to read last Thurs. should be ready tomorrow and the first 2 students from Monday should be ready just in case there is time.

Monthly Memory is due on Friday by the time I leave.

Other
Everyone has a sheet with information about what utensils they need to bring for their cookies tomorrow. The name of their partner is on the bottom and that is whom you should contact if there are any questions. They also need their work shirts or aprons. If you volunteered to help please come around 12:30 tomorrow, we will work in the cafeteria.

Tonight
We meet in the church choir room between 6:30 and 6:45 please make sure you are here by 6:45. You may pick your child up at a designated spot anywhere from the big entry doors on the right side to somewhere out in the narthex. Picking them up by the choir loft will create too much congestion.

Sports
The basketball game from Tues has been cancelled. Monday's game will be made up on Friday at St. Peter Macomb at the regular times. The game tomorrow is as scheduled. The players and cheerleaders have a note about this information.

Christmas - Friday
Your child should bring in the exchange gift on Friday. Put who the gift is to on the outside and who it is from on the inside.

Hope you the snow days worked out ok for you. It has made a whole new excitement to this week.

General
Happy Saint Nicholas Day. If I were the age of your children I would be writing my Christmas list and putting it in one of my socks and pinning it to one of the drawers of my dad's desk tonight. Saint Nicholas would come tonight and get our lists and leave us a candy bar and maybe some little pieces of candy. Then Saint Nicholas would give the list to Santa Claus so he know what we wanted for Christmas. For us now in 2010 it is the first day of the last 2 weeks of school before Christmas vacation. Tomorrow is decorating day, remind your child to bring in their work shirt for decorating. If you are sending cranberries or popcorn send it in also tomorrow. If you want to help with cookie baking next week, please send in the slip so I know if and who I have helping. We will be selecting cookie recipes from cookbooks this Thurs. so if you have a good cookbook with normal not real fancy cookies you can send that in on Thurs. I have a pretty good collection. I will tell this to the class also. The music Christmas concert is Wed. in the gym. I think the beginning band needs to be here at 6:00 pm. There is a dress down day this Friday with a free will donation going to Jamie Smiles Program. There will be a note tomorrow explaining the Jamie Smiles Program. Next Wed. is the school Christmas Program. The midterm is this Friday. We are trying to do midterms this time on line by having you check "Fast Direct" for your child's grades. Then you would need to email me or send in a note that said you saw the midterm.

Work
This weeks memory is Isaiah 9:6 on page 211. There will be a spelling list and test this week.
I am working on trying to finish the first 7 lessons in English on this verb chapter and have a test before Christmas vacation. I am not sure if we will get the Social Studies information completed or not. It will be tight to get it done and have the test. We started sharing Christmas stories today. Your child has their date and it will be adapted since we got behind already today.

Sports
Congratulations to the boys team for winning the Spartan Classic this weekend. There is an away game and Thurs. this week. The boys have a tournament at Lutheran High Northwest.
The girls have practice Wed and Friday.

That is it for this week.

Monday note Nov. 29, 2010

General
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break. I enjoyed mine with my friend from Minnesota. Now it is time to get back to work and get all of the myriad things done during this preChristmas time. Sometime next week we will decorating the room for Christmas. I decorate for an "old fashion" Christmas in that we string cranberries and popcorn for decorating the tree and we make paper ornaments. Therefore be thinking if you can pop come popcorn - unbuttered or purchase a bag of cranberries. I will be sending a note where you can volunteer to do that. The students also need a work shirt for that day so maybe be looking for an old shirt they can bring to school to work in. It can be an apron, but not too many have ever brought that. As part of the Christmas celebration, we have a cookie baking day to make the cookies for the class party. The mixing and baking day will be Thurs. Dec. 16 in the afternoon. If you would like to help with that, mark that afternoon on your calendars. A note will be sent home about that also. Then mark DEC. 8th for the band and handbell concert in the evening and DEC 15 for the school Christmas program.
Work
Memory for Friday is I Thess 5:16-18 on page 51. There will be a spelling list tomorrow with a test on Friday. The Science test was returned today. It should be signed or a note sent in by Mon. Dec. 6th. We started a new chapter in Soc. St. today and we will do one more chapter about explorers before Christmas. I am going to make sure the Soc. St. is completed and not start a new chapter in Science before Christmas. We will complete half of the English chapter and test on that 1/2 before Christmas. Monthly Memory for Nov. is due tomorrow and the Monthly Memory for Dec. is the meaning to the Close of the Commandments and the Introduction to the Lord's Prayer. The book report for Nov. is due tomorrow and the new topic is reading a Christmas story to the class. I will explain it to the class and I have a large collection of Christmas stories to choose from or they can choose on from home. They have to practice reading the book and be able to present/read it to the class. So the work is to practice the book, being able to read it clearly and smoothly with expression and to be able to show the pictures. There is no writing assignment with it. But it will start some time next week so we can get them all done.
Sports
There are practices this week on Mon. and Wed. There is an away game on Thurs I believe. On Friday and Saturday is the Spartan Classic. We host a 5th and 6th grade boys basketball tournament here this weekend. You may be contacted to help with some of the activities for the tournament or you can volunteer. I don't know who to contact but I would start with Mr. Anders.

That is it for today.

Deanna Hollrah

I hope all of you have a happy and special Thanksgiving. Remember to take some time with your family to think of all of the blessings we have received from God and to give Him special thanks. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the meal, football and the next day barrage of shopping that once again we forget to give Thanks to the one who provides it all for us. This is a short week with only 2 days and next week Dec and Advent begin. Thanks for the food items from last Friday for the dress down day. Mrs. Chilcutt and her team prepared nearly 80 food baskets for people in our church family.

General
Thank you to everyone for making your conference on time and thank you to those of you that had to wait if I got behind. We are beginning a very busy time of the school year especially for those of you involved with basketball in some way. There are only 9 school days left for November so your child needs to be focused on completing the Monthly memory and the book report that are due on Nov. 30. We will be attending a special assembly by the Michigan Forest Heritage tomorrow morning. We will be starting school practices for the Christmas Program after Thanksgiving. There is a coffee with the principal this Thurs. in the morning and the afternoon, but not the evening because of the home basketball game. Friday is a dress down day where a non-perishable item needs to be brought in for a non dress code top and one for a non dress code bottom. There should be a list of needed items in the Trinity Leader or you can bring other items as well. Many of these items will be used to fill Thanksgiving baskets for Trinity members in need.
Work
The Friday memory is Eph. 2:8&9 on page 47. Verse nine stops at the word boast. We are having the assembly I mentioned earlier during spelling so Mrs. Meseke is giving the class a list on Thurs and doing the test next Tues. before Thanksgiving. We will have a Math test this Wed. and there will be a social studies test on Friday on the chapter 2 on the Native American and a test in science on chapter 3 next Tues. We will be working on English yet quite a while.
Sports
There are 3 home games this week - Mon. Tues. and Thurs. There is practice on Wed. and I think there is no practice on Friday. Notes were sent out about helping in the concession stand, so please check that so you know if you are working.

That is it for today.

Thank you for the wonderful attendance for singing yesterday at the early service. The choir really sounded good. We do need to practice getting there at the early time requested because warming up is so important and Mrs. Tirsell has to go play organ by at least 5 till 8:00. Thank you also for so many report cards making it back today. If you haven't signed the response sheet do so and put it in the envelope. I am looking forward to seeing all of you this week. Check your scheduled time so you know when to be here. If there is a problem, contact me or the school office so a change can be made in one of the open spots. There will be 1/2 days on Wed and Thurs. and no school on Friday this week because of conferences.

General
I hope you all had a nice longer weekend. The conference was good that we attended. This week Thurs. is the field trip to the Macomb Community College about brainstorming. Don't forget to pack a lunch for your child as we will be returning after the scheduled lunch. Drivers be here by 10:15 so we can load and leave by 10:30 am. This Wed. is the special Reformation Service at 10:00 am. Peace, Warren, St. Luke and St. John, Fraser will be joining us. You also are welcome to worship with us. Friday is the end of the first quarter. All late and absent work should be turned in by that time. Report cards will be sent home on Friday Nov. 6. Parent-teacher conferences are the following week. Please make sure your conference request sheet is turned in by this Wed. If it is being sent back with a younger child, have your child tell me that it is in. Almost everyone has brought in a bar of soap, we still have till Wed. to meet our goal. If your child can't donate at this time, have them tell me instead of having it look like they don't want to help out. I didn't get the entertainment books handed out today. They are lying on your child's desk as I type. Read the information about the books, just make sure you return your family book if you don't want to sell it. Next week the school day will be 15 minutes longer. Read the information in the Trinity Leader. I will have a new schedule for the classroom by that time. Halloween is coming up this weekend, I don't do anything in the classroom for Halloween so there aren't any parties etc. There is a dress down day on Friday - it is a pay one, but that is as good as it gets. The money goes to Covenant House in Detroit. The 8th grade is also selling cookies - 2 for 50 cents- which will be added to the dress down day money for Covenant House.
Work
Friday's memory is Rom. 6:23 found on page 37. There will be a spelling test on Friday, they will get their list tomorrow. There will be a math test on Thurs. and a Science test for chapter 2 on Wed. The Social Studies test was returned today and should be signed or a note by next Mon. There will be an English test next week probably Tues. Monthly Memory is due on Friday and the book reports are due on Friday.
Soccer
The soccer team has a home game on Tues. and an away game on Wed. That looks like that completes the season. There will be one day when all all fall sport uniforms should be turned in. That day has not been set. But wash the uniform as soon as possible after the last game both volleyball and soccer so it will be ready to return when the date is scheduled. Be looking for information for 5th and 6th basketball and cheerleading. That season is coming up before Christmas. You will be able to relax after the first of the year, because the next season for 5th and 6th grade is in the spring.
Other
Double check your child's school supplies. They may need to replace dry erase markers, red pens, maybe some pencils. Oh check the Trinity Leader for information about using fast direct for paying for lunch, bagels, milk and extras with the lunch program. We are going to try to eliminate the use of tickets and use the computer information for meal counts and for payment. It is explained in more detail in the leader. This will start on Nov. 1. It will help with lost tickets and forgotten tickets. That is all for today.

General
The end of the first quarter is next Friday. It also is the last day of the month so late, absent and other missing work needs to be in as well as book reports and monthly memory. We are collecting soap through Wed. Oct. 27. The field trip for writing is on Thurs. Some permission slips are still out and I need drivers. There will be a dress down day for Covenant House on Friday Oct. 29 and the 8th graders are selling cookies at 2 for 50 cents. All proceeds from the dress down day and the cookies will go to Covenant House. Fifth grade is NOT doing chapel Wed., the Impact Mission project about Malawi is sharing the message about that mission outreach. The 3 tests from last week were to be signed or a note by today, send them in if you have not done so. There is no school on Friday, the staff is attending a teachers' conference at Lutheran High North.

Work
There is no Friday memory since we won't have school on Friday. That is also true for spelling on Friday. There will be a Social Studies test on Thurs for chapter 1. There will probably be a Science test next week some time on chapter 2.

Sports
The last volleyball game is tomorrow and the last practice was today. Watch for information about returning your uniforms. Soccer had a game today and has practice this week but I don't know when. They still have a game next week. 5th and 6th basketball starts right after soccer is over. Both the boys and girls will play their season before Christmas break. There will be cheerleading also. The cheerleaders cheer for the boys. The girls will play the first game on game days and the boys play the second game. Practice dates and such have not been determined but there will be little time in between the sports. The game dates are online under schedules on the web page I believe.

Other
I can't think of anything at this time. Check the Trinity Leader for other information. Also check for owes your child may have. Those have to be paid before report cards are issued to your child. That is it for this week.

Deanna Hollrah

Here’s the blurb: “Interactive opportunity for elementary and middle school students to participate in the creative writing process, featuring audience story ideas, wacky costumes, music, sound effects, and opportunities for audience volunteer actors.” There is no cost. We’re taking 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades (so we should be making up a major portion of the audience!). It’s on Thursday, October 28. Anyone available to drive or chaperone should meet at school at 10:30. The show begins at 11:00 and I imagine we’ll be back to Trinity by 1:00. Send in a sack lunch that day, as we’ll be eating in the classroom upon our return. So please sign the permission slip soon and send it back. Thanks!

Monday note 10-11-10

General
Thank you for the quick response to the midterms. I got most of them back today. If you haven't yet signed the cover sheet please do that by Friday. The midterm sheet is for you to keep. Some of the grades will change this week because of the tests we took last week. All 3 tests have been graded and returned today. For tests I want to make sure you see all tests for English, Social Studies and Science. Therefore, you are to sign the test and return it or sign a note verifying you saw the test and you can keep the test. This needs to be done within one week from when the test was returned to your child. You can put several tests on one note if you wish. For instance the 3 tests that came home today can be signed or one note written and turned in. They are due by next Monday. I do not have you sign math tests because we have so many of them that you would be signing all of the time and I couldn't keep up with checking on it.
Starting Oct. 13 to Oct. 27 the school is collecting items for hygiene kits for the Family of God mission. Each class is assigned one item and they are asking each student to bring in one of that item. Our item is a regular size bar of bath soap.
Work
Friday's memory is John 8:31-32 found on page 33. They should be half way through the Monthly Memory by the end of this week if they don't want a rushed end of the month time. We have no tests this week but we may be done with Social Studies sometime next week. I will explain the book report on Wed. as to how to do it.
Sports
It is a busy week for sports. There was a soccer game today, there is another soccer game on Wed. and it is at home. Soccer also has another home game next Mon. If we don't have a faculty meeting, the soccer players can stay in the room until their game. I don't know about practices, I have received no information, hopefully you or your child knows. Volleyball has an away game on Tues. and a home game on Thurs. and I again, I don't know about practices.
Other
A couple of things coming up. I and the 5th grade will be presenting chapel next Wed. Remember you are invited to all chapels. We will be doing baptismal birthdays for Oct. at the that chapel because we have a special chapel the following Wed. That Wed., Oct. 27, is the Reformation service with 3 other visiting schools. Next Sunday is the special presentation in church on the prophecies of Jesus. I don't have the details here with me, but I heard him when he did the Gospel of John a couple of years ago at Mt. Clemens High School. He is very good and interesting, so you may want to check the details on that in the Leader or the Church Information sheet. The 5th graders could get something from it also. That is all I can think of at this time.
In His Service,
Deanna Hollrah

I will be asking them to choose one of the two mottos and explain what it means in the context of the story. I will also be asking them to describe why they feel sorry for some of the characters in the story. There will be a couple additional questions as well, but I wanted to give the children an opportunity to prepare for these particular concepts.

Monday note 10-4-10

General
Thank you for the positive participation for the Good News Choir singing at church on Sunday. I know that for many of you the 8:00 o'clock service is not your first choice, but we need everyone there so the choir sounds like they practiced for the preceding weeks. We have a tough schedule this year since the Good News Choir has 3 of the early service and only 1 of the late services. Heide receives the dates when her choirs are to sing then she has to select the time. Heide is working with 2 other schools and their choirs which makes scheduling very difficult for her. That is why we ended up with those early times because she is available then and needs to be at another church for a later service. So we need to support Heide in this and just get up early a few more times than we may like to. It also teaches the children the need to do what is necessary to meet a responsibility, we may not like it, but it is the right thing to do. And you did that yesterday - thanks. Pictures are tomorrow, they students can dress better than dress code or wear dress code. They will be given permission to change if they don't want to stay in their "Sunday best" all day. Hopefully you checked out the information about the pictures, there are some different things that can be done this year. I don't really know what they are, but I have been told you have various options. Don't forget to order your yearbook which is separate from the picture order. Mid terms will sent home on Friday. Remember this is letting you how your child is doing, it is not the completed grade for the quarter. Any work listed as missing has 2 weeks to get it turned in or it will be made into an F grade. There will be a slip to sign to indicate that you saw the midterm, you should keep the midterm paper. It is a line by line print out of the grades on fast direct.

Work
Friday's memory is John 15:16 on page 31. Monthly Memory for Oct. are commandments 5,6,7, and 8. This includes the meaning of the commandments. The book report for Oct. will be the book the class is reading for Mrs. Brown - "How to Steal a Dog". I will explain how to do the book report next week Mon. (I forgot to tell them today what the topic was, I will do that tomorrow or Wed.) It is a rough week for tests. Tomorrow - Tues is Science Ch. 1. Wed. is Social Studies - the Introduction. Thurs is English Chapter 1. They should put their graded worksheets for Science and Social Studies back in their homework folder so they are available for review before the tests. In Social Studies they should study their notes and the definition sheets and look over worksheets. Science would be good to look at the worksheets and the checkpoint and some of the book. English would be good to use the review pages in the book. I'll explain that tomorrow. We reviewed for Social Studies today and I gave them some ideas what to study for both Science and Social Studies. We reviewed Science last Friday. Math didn't want to be left out and my class will have a test on Friday and Mr. Anders' class will probably have a test on Wed or Thurs.

Sports
The soccer team has a game today at Utica and an away game at St. John Fraser. The volleyball team has an away game on Tues and the home game against St. Paul Sterling Heights has been cancelled. There will be no practice that day either. The team does have a tournament this weekend. I don't know about practices except the Thurs. one. for either volleyball or soccer.
There are "Trinity" soccer socks available in the school office for $6.

Other
ALL papers except the book report and my classes math test that were turned in up through last week have been graded and sent home today. It took some perseverance but they are done. All grades will be listed on fast direct tonight before I go to bed. I informed everyone if they had something missing and what it was. If it was turned in today or will be turned in tomorrow I will for sure grade it before the midterm. If it is later than that, I can not promise to grade before the midterm. Of course I will grade it but it would still show as missing on the midterm. I think I am missing something, but I don't know what, so hopefully it isn't anything terribly important.

In His Service,
Deanna Hollrah

Monday letter Sept 27, 2010

General
First of all, I had a wonderful time at my nephew's wedding. It was a beautiful wedding and everything from outward appearances looked like it went as planned. My family members all arrived safely and we had a great visit even though it was short. In getting back to the classroom today it also was a blessing to hear that the class handled themselves well for Mrs. Lojewski who substituted for me. I also heard many of you made it to the 11:00 service and that the kids sang well. It sounded like the helicopter for the picture was a real hit also.
We had a fire safety assembly today and the 5th grade are to plan an escape plan for your home. I made it an assignment which is due Friday. A boy and girl will be selected to represent our school on Oct. 16 at the Fireman's Open House and they will get to ride on a fire truck. More information on the open house will come later. Today a special note went home about yearbooks next year. They need to be ordered when the pictures are taken next week.

Work
Friday's memory is Rom. 5:8 on page 15 and 2 Thess. 3:3 on page 17. There will be a spelling test on Friday. They will get their list tomorrow. They need to complete reading Room One for Mrs. Brown today, they will have a quiz on it tomorrow. She will use it for a writing assignment. At this time it looks like there will be a Science test for Chapter 1 on Friday. Next week there will be an English test and a Social Studies test. I don't know what days so check the assignment update blog or your child's assignment book. Thurs Sept. 30 is the last school day of the month and Monthly Memory needs to be complete and the book report is due. They need to be done or turned in by the time I leave school on Thurs.

Sports
There is a change in this weeks soccer schedule. It is as follows:
Monday: 3:15 to 4:30, Tues. 3:15 to 4:30 Wed. 4:15 to 5:30 Thurs. 4:00 to 5:00 also pass out uniforms, check equipment and walk through game procedures.
Volleyball for this week is practice today and Wed. and away games on Tues and Thurs.

Other
Mr. Petzold is have Coffee with the Principal next week Monday Oct. 4th. This is a great opportunity to meet him and hear about the things happening here at Trinity. Here is the information that was in the Trinity Leader:
Coffee with the Principal Meeting!!!
I want to invite any and all parents to a special meeting with me on Monday, October 4th at 8:10am, 2:00pm, or 5:00pm in the lobby. I want to meet with all interested parents for a time of sharing about the school's mission and future direction as well as allowing people to volunteer for leading (or helping) with upcoming events. You will also have a time to ask questions, provide input, and share about the school. It should be fun, informative, and a great way to stay involved in your child's education. Attendance is optional, of course, so don't feel guilty if you can't make it. I plan to have more meetings like this throughout the school year.
I need a few parents who'd be willing to bring some "goodies" to the first meeting. Just let me know if you can provide them. I hope you'll take the time to come!! Thanks!
Mr. Petzold

That is all I have for this week.
In His Service,
Deanna Hollrah

I am still behind in grading. It will be next week before I am completely caught up since I will be gone all weekend. Everything that I have graded will be entered on fastdirect yet sometime today. Then nothing more will be added till next week. I beg your patience with this, I really don't like it either since it means a "ton" of grading and recording to do when I return. I will be gone for the weekend to my nephew's wedding in St. Charles MO.

There will be no posting tomorrow because I will have a substitute in for me. Try it the "old fashion" way and see if your child has it recorded correctly in their assignment book. I will try to back check it next Mon.

General
I will not be in class this Friday. Mrs. Lojewski will be my substitute. I will going to Missouri to attend my nephew's wedding on Sat. This is the weekend of the 125th celebration. I sent home a note today about asking any school children who will be attending church at 11:00 am on Sunday to come and sing the "Big Fish" song. Please return the bottom portion of the note if your child wants to participate. This Wed. we are participating in the "See You at the Pole" program by having chapel outside in the back instead of the flag pole. You are welcome to come.
We will be going into church after it to practice the "Big Fish" song.

Work
First of all I want to apologize for not getting your child's papers graded this past week. It was a very busy week with preparations for the 9th grade retreat, grading just didn't get done. I plan to work diligently this week to get caught up so they can be returned and to get them on fast direct. Thank you for your patience and understanding. This Friday's memory is 2 Tim. 3:15 on page 13. There will be a spelling test on Friday and they should get their list on tomorrow. There will be our first math test in my class tomorrow. After that there will be a test after every 5 lessons. The test will be on the concepts in lessons 1-5. There are no other tests this week we are working our way through the Introduction in Social Studies, the first chapter in Science and the chapter on sentences in English.

Sports
Soccer has to change their Tues practice to Wed at the same time. There also is a practice on Thurs. Volleyball has a home game Tues and an away game on Thurs. There also is practice on Wed.

Other
There is a dress down day on Friday. Sports is the theme, wear something for your favorite sport team. It is a pay dress down day. $1 for a sporty top and $1 for jeans on the bottom. You can do both items for $2 or just one item for $1 or no items for free - that means wear regular dress code. I think that is all for today.

Monday note 9-13-10

General
Well we are in the 3rd week of school and things should be taking shape as to routine and work. Just a couple of thoughts. First of all the homework folder. Remember the first 2 pockets "Notes home, notes return" and "Graded homework" are the 2 pockets you should empty they have information for you. The other pockets check for what an assignment looks like or if it is completed, but don't take out anything unless your child is present. As the classroom schedule is becoming a reality, you may need to help or remind your child about work planning. It looks like Mon., and Thurs are going to be some heavy assignment days. But, not all of the assignments are due the next day. They need to work according to what is due the next day and then look at the work that is due the following day. They do not have to do everything that was assigned on the night it was assigned. It needs to be done before the day it is due. Thank you for your attendance at Curriculum night. We get to enjoy ice cream with Mr. Petzold on Friday afternoon.

Work
Your child should be working on the 2nd commanment this week, if they are going to do one Monthly Memory a week. Some have completed several memories. If your child hasn't done any they need to get going. There are no test yet this week, it appears a math test will show up next week and possibly something in Social Studies. Friday's memory is Ps. 145:3 on page 11 in the religion book. Remember I plan these memories based on the length in the religion book, the Bible may be a little longer.

Sports
Volleyball games start this week. There are 2 home games on Mon. and Tues. They got moved together because the 6th grade is going to Outdoor Ed on Wed till Fri. The schedule says there is practice on Wed to Fri but check since the 6th grade will be gone. Soccer starts Tues at 4:15 till 5:30 or maybe 6:00 I don't know for sure. Mr. Bill Auther is the coach.

Other
I can't think of any other at the moment, so I will conclude that is all for this week, check the assignment update on the blog for daily assignments.

assignment 9-10-10 udate/addition

I just found this information from Mrs. Brown about the writing assignment so I am doing the addition which she wrote up for you to understand what she assigned.

From Mrs. Brown: The 5th grade has a writing assignment due Tuesday, Sept. 14. They’ve been working on an alternate ending to the short story entitled “Just Once” by Thomas J. Dygard. Here are the parameters of their assignment: it must be realistic; word length is 200-300 words; they are to include a line from the story (they’ll know what it is) as a literary device; there is to be very little dialogue. The rough draft can be either hand-written or typed (double-spaced). They will eventually be typing the final copy, so if you’d like to assist them in typing it up now, that would be fine. I told them that you could help them with the typing, as long as they sat with you.

assignment 9-10-10

Math - my class has lesson 4 for Monday and Mr. Anders' class has lesson 6.
Soc. St. - read H2, H9 and H10 for Monday
Writing Workshop - they need to do a rough draft for the ending of their story. It can be typed, written or printed. They can dictate it to you for you to type if you want to do that, but make sure it is what they say to you, don't edit it or "fix" it.
Reading - WS 2 and WS 3 are due Mon. they were assigned on Thurs.
That's all for today and the weekend

Tues. Newsletter 9-7-10

Hello everyone, hope you all had a good Labor Day break. Here is the newsletter which contains more information than my daily assignment updates.

General
If you were not able to attend the curriculum night tonight, I will send home with your child a copy of the presentation. Please sign the sheet and return it to me by Friday. Most of you have returned the big envelope, if you haven't please do so by Friday. If you your child still needs some of the supplies also have those by Friday. We are starting to do work this week.

Work
This weeks Friday memory is 2 Tim. 3:16 found on page 9 in the religion book. The Monthly Memory for Sept. is the first 4 commandments and their meanings. The book report topic is a free choice. Monthly Memory and the book report need to be done by the last school day of the month which is Sept. 30 for this month. All of the subjects are being introduced this week so there will be general assignments but not any tests.

Sports
There is volleyball practice every day this week from 4:30 to 6:00. There is a parent meeting on Wed. (tomorro) during the 5:30 to 6:00 time. The first game is Monday next week and another on Tues. Make sure you have taken care of uniform usage fees and physicals by then. I haven't heard any information about soccer yet.

Other
We had a good week last week getting started, I hope the rest of the year goes as well. I am looking forward to meeting all of you tonight or soon thereafter. That is all for today.

Tues. Aug. 31 update

We got through a few more things today. They have their assignment notebooks and homework folders (8 pocket folder) filled out so check those out. I'll explain some of the details about both of them at curriculum night next Tues.

Assignments today
Memory: I Peter 4: 10, 11. It is due on Thurs. It will be a written memory, spelling will not count. They have a copy in their homework folder in the Religion pocket. Use that copy because it is shorter than the Bible version since some words were omitted. This is our school theme Bible verse.

Welcome to 5th Grade

Hello Everyone, welcome to the 5th Grade blog. I am trying to become a blogger again this year. This will be the main way for you to receive your Monday notes, I can print copies for those of you who don't have access to a computer. We are trying to do this to save paper and they by save some trees. It was a great day in 5th grade today. It was good to see all the new 5th grade faces even though many were familiar faces. We have 2 girls who are joining us this year. If you as parents see them make them feel welcome.
This week will be mainly getting settled, learning the procedures for 5th grade, getting everything lined up and figured out. We will have some work to do, but not a whole lot. Now next week that will be different, we will be diving into the books and the work will begin. That must be why they call it Labor Day, the laboring begins after that day. Mrs. Scheiderer will be talking to the class about beginning band on Wed. She will have an informational letter for the class also. There are sport sign up sheets posted on the Sport Bulletin Board. There is soccer for boys and girls and volleyball for girls for the fall sports. Yes you have just entered in the time of sports and band as choices for things your child can participate in. Band is during the school day, but the sport activities are after school. If you don't have all of your materials yet, please try to have them by this Thurs. so we can get to work next week and have everything we need. I will give a daily update on assignments on the blog, but I won't type out extra information. Monday I will do a more complete letter with headings for "general, school work and sports. I will post that probably after 4:00 pm depending on how busy it is before 4:00 pm.
Don't forget next week Tues. Sept. 7th is curriculum night from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Parents attend and children don't. You will find out the information I have been explaining to your children and other 5th grade information. I am looking forward to meeting all of you. If you wish to contact me use the school email, the school phone and leave a message or if at night you need some help or other information about something call me at home. That is all I have for today.

In His Service,
Deanna Hollrah
