all assignments are due on Wed June 1 since we are going on the field trip on Tues. unless stated differently
First, there is a note in your child's homework folder with some reminders about the field trip.
Math - my class has lesson 118 and 117 to be completed by Wed. They should work on any other corrections up through lesson 116 also over the weekend. All work and corrections need to be turned in on Friday June 3 before I go home.

General
The year seems to be racing to an end. Please check for notes and keep up with the information that is being sent home. This week is the Fine Arts Festival. That means we all need to be here Wed. evening. Band and Good News Choir are performing along with all other music groups. Everyone is to wear white on top and black on the bottom. Band needs to be here at 6:00 pm and the choir only should be here at 6:15 pm. The band needs to bring their instruments tomorrow (Tues) as well as Wed. They are practicing with the upper grade band. Percussion does not have bring their instruments tomorrow. I will be sending a note about the field trip next Tues. going over some details for the trip. I got a lot of coolers donated. I will email you if I need yours to be brought and I will probably have a few for back up. I still need several permission slips yet to be turned in. Plus there are still some midterms and tests or test notes that haven't been turned in.
Work

Math - my class has lesson 112 for tomorrow, and Mr. Anders' class has lesson 115 for tomorrow. They really didn't have it for today.
Spelling - they received a list today and the test will be next Tues.

As writing workshop progresses, I've come to realize that the deadlines I've set for the class are unrealistic. I think that having Fridays as one of my writing days has put us behind the 8 ball! My main concern is that, by rushing through in order to get to the final product, I won't be teaching the required concepts effectively. Therefore, I want to extend the deadlines as we proceed. We won't get to the final copy, but hopefully the class will learn more along the way. So please disregard the calendar of due dates that you signed a few weeks ago. I want to use more class time to write note cards, and then teach the class how to use the note cards to write the rough draft. We'll also look at the on-line resources that are available.
My goal for the remainder of the year is for the children to see the relationship between the working outline, the note cards, and writing the rough draft. I'll see how we progress today in writing the note cards and will update you later in the week as to the next due date, but nothing will be due this week.
Help! Mrs. Mona Wade the concession supervisor needs help in preparing the light dinner for the Athletic Banquet. If you can help please let her know. Her number is in the school phone directory. (usually it is spaghetti or something like that)

Also I need to turn in the $100 pledgers on Thurs. so they can be considered for the prize drawings. The money can be turned in early like this week or it can be sent in next week. We are all wearing our "Big Fish" t-shirts and they can wear dress down pants. Please make sure your child wears good walking shoes for walking the 5 miles. We are walking first and doing prizes and so forth at 10:30 or so. Dismissal is at 11:30 or so. Come and join us for walking or helping or watching the prizes being distributed. Don't forget I need permission slips yet from some of you for the Lansing field trip. I need to hear from some of you for midterms also. They were due on Friday. It is a token a day for anyone still late. Don't forget the Fine Arts Festival is a week from Wed. May 25th from 6:30 to 8:00 everyone needs to attend.

If they pass it they can sit with their classmates at that time. If they don't they stay and work on it. The best choice is to set May 26th as the end date for the Monthly Memory. Book reports are not due until Wed. June 1st.

I heard the Track Meet went well this past Sat. This coming Sat is the Regional Meet at Lutheran High North. This Wed is the Athletic Banquet. It starts at 6:00 with a light meal, then the awards are given. It lasts till about 8:30 or so. As 5th graders they will receive a Trinity Letter "T" as well as a medal or something for each sport they participated in this school year. This does include cheerleading. If you can not attend, the awards will be kept and given to your child at school on Thurs. Hopefully you remember if you are bringing a dessert or 2 liters of pop.

As the school year comes to a close we will be doing academic things through June 3rd. Any final assignments will be collected on Friday June 4th. With so many extra exciting things going on, please remind your child that it is still school and that work still needs to be completed. Let's make the end of the year as good and productive as the beginning.

I am the record keeper of this information not the office. If you can help out on the 20th please return the half slip that was sent home last week or contact the office. Please email me or send in a note if you have previewed the midterm on line. If you need a paper copy tell your child or email me that also. The response needs to be in by Friday May 13. Also any missing or absent work needs to be turned in by the end of the day on Friday or when I leave on Friday. Anything not in will turn into an F or zero. As the weather gets warmer remind your child that school work still needs to be completed. The Athletic Awards Banquet is coming up on Wed May 18th. Information will be sent home soon. Anyone who participated in a sport this year is invited to attend with their family.

There will be a Science test on Thurs. for chapter 11. We will review on Wed. the worksheets will be good study tools. We are not going to have a test on Chapter 8 in Social Studies. We are studying the events that lead up to the Revolutionary War and the Revolutionary War. That will be as far as we get this year. My class will have a math test on Friday.

There is a tract meet this Sat. at Lutheran High North. There is practice this week. Check your schedule from Mr. Anders since I don't have one and haven't run one off from on line.

There will be a Science test on Thurs. for chapter 11. We will review on Wed. the worksheets will be good study tools. We are not going to have a test on Chapter 8 in Social Studies. We are studying the events that lead up to the Revolutionary War and the Revolutionary War. That will be as far as we get this year. My class will have a math test on Friday.
Sports
There is a tract meet this Sat. at Lutheran High North. There is practice this week. Check your schedule from Mr. Anders since I don't have one and haven't run one off from on line.

Writing workshop - they need to have their 2 resources selected on the sheet of paper and they need a packet of note cards. If you have not signed that sheet yet you should. This is all due on Tues. Also post that half sheet with all of the due dates in a visible spot so you know when things are due.

Midterms - please read the note in your child's homework folder about accessing the midterm online. Please email me or send in a note by Friday that you reviewed the midterm. If you want a printed copy please ask or email me and I will make you a copy.

I hope all of you had a joyous Easter! And now it is the 2nd of May. This will be a busy month so please keep up with the many things going on and it you have a question about something please email or call so you get the information you want or need. First of all this Friday midterms will be sent home. Late and missing work need to be turned in tomorrow if it wasn't turned in today.
Mr. Petzold sent everyone an email about his condition that developed over the break. Be sure and read it so you have accurate information. The 5th grade end of the year and the only field trip is Tues. May 31. This is right after we return from the Memorial Day weekend. The itinerary, permission slip and cost will be sent home at the end of this week or the beginning of next week. There will be room for parents who wish to attend, but seats are available on a first come first serve basis. I don't remember how many seats are on the charter bus we get. The walk-a-thon is Friday May 20 and we have the Friday May 27 off for the Memorial Day weekend. Like I said May is busy.

Friday memory is two shorter verses - Phil 4:13 on page 103 and I Sam. 2:1 on page 105. This months Monthly Memory are the Third and Fourth parts of baptism. Each part has two sections. These are not easy ones like April's so it is not a good plan to put off learning these until the end of the month. They are due on the 31st. The book report topic is a free choice book so it should be in vicinity of 125 pages or so since there is no special topic to find. The evaluation questions for chapter 7 of Social Studies was returned today. I did not count it as a regular test so it is only 1 grade and doesn't need to be signed and returned. They also are receiving a work grade which is an average of a self grade and a leader grade for their work on the colonial regions reports. The next chapter we will cover by reading the chapter and doing the worksheets. There will be an English test on Thurs. on Chapter 7 about adverbs and prepositions.

General I hope you had a nice Palm Sunday as preparation for Holy Week. Please remember to take some time this week to prepare for the special days that remind us of what Jesus did for us. We have church services on Thurs. at 10 am and at 7 pm also on Good Friday at 1 pm and 7 pm. We do go to school till 12:30 on Friday so you can pick up your child and go to the 1 pm service. If your child has to go to SAC that day, I would be glad to be responsible for them and they can attend church with me and then go to SAC. They also could go with a friend if their parents are attending the 1 pm service. There is no hot lunch on Friday. So everyone should pack a lunch and we will eat in the room before 12:30. If you have plans to leave after school on Thurs. please let me know so I have an idea how many people will be here Friday. It is not a regular academic day. We do various things to prepare us for the day and the Easter celebration. Next week is our Easter vacation then. I hope all of you have a very Happy and Joyous Easter and a relaxing break. Work We are having a Friday memory but I am going to have it due on Thurs. so everyone takes it at the same time. It is I John 4:10 on page 233. I don't know if Mrs. Meseke has an Easter spelling list for them or not, I think so and that will be Friday. Those who are leaving early will need to take it early. There were no new assignments today. We did complete 3 achievement tests. Mrs. Brown returned the Writing Workshop Shroud of Turin papers with editing comments. The final copy of the paper should be done next Tues. April 19. My class for math should be working on corrections, so that by Thurs. they have all corrections in for lessons up through 92. Memory for Friday is Is. 41:10 on page 97 Many of the class are reading books hopefully their book report book and working on Monthly Memory. Both of those are due next Friday or Thursday.

Monday newsletter 4-11-11
General This is Achievement test week ie "SAT's". They did real well today. Continue to encourage good sleep and eating something for breakfast. We do take breaks so if they have something nutritional they want to bring to school for a mid-morning snack they may. Friday is a dress down day for food for the food pantry. I believe they do "Easter baskets" here at Trinity. The Tweet should have what food items they are looking for, if not money will also work. Sunday is Palm Sunday. Those of you who said your child could sing Sunday at the 8:00 am service will hear a little more about that later this week. They will be practicing with Mr. Finazzo this week sometime. Work There will be a Friday memory this week which is Isaiah 41:10 on page 97. There is no spelling this week. Math is Thurs and Fri this week. Until that time my class should work on corrections and lesson 96 should done by Thurs. They need to grade lesson 92 on their own and try to grade lesson 94 on their own. We are giving the regional reports in class for Social Studies. There will be an evaluation for that chapter, but it will not be a knowledge test. Science we are working on chapter 11. The book report book should be brought to school every day so they can read when they finish the achievement test and others haven't finished. Same with Monthly Memory, they can study it while others are finishing the test and at a break time, they can write it. If they get April's done they should move right on the May's which is Third and Fourth part of Baptism. Each part is divided into two parts. General Next week is achievement testing or "SAT's" as some call them. Just remind your child they are nothing to worry or stress out about. They are tests more for us as teachers, to make sure everyone is achieving as they should in the academic areas. They should try to do their best to answer the questions, but they have nothing to do with grades and so forth. It is important as it is for every day to get enough rest the night before and to eat something for breakfast. You will be getting the results of the test at the end of the school year. The good things for the students, we don't have as many classes during the week and that means less homework and so forth. So they need to focus on the good things and not on the fact it is a week of tests. This Friday is the casual day for the girls which they won last month for bringing in the most box tops. Work Friday's memory is Eph. 4: 31-32 on page 91. There will be a spelling test and project on Friday. They will receive their list tomorrow. The rough draft for the Shroud of Turin needs to be typed for tomorrow's Writing Workshop class. For the people in my math class they have to have corrections through lesson 86 turned in tomorrow or they will have a work detention. We are on lesson 90 and we started on lesson 81. They should never get more than 3 lessons behind on corrections. If they do, I will be giving them a work detention to get caught up. Tests have been sent today and some last week. Today they received their Social Studies test and English tests. They need to be signed or a note sent in by next Monday, April 11th. The Science test or note is due tomorrow April 5th. Report card envelopes and the quarter signing sheet should be in and the old Social Studies test should be in. There are still a few people who have those out. This month's book report topic is "award winners" . These are books that have won some literary award. Since the last school day of the month is quite early for April, I will be giving them the "how" to do the book report information this week. The monthly memory for April is the First and Second parts of Baptism. They are easier than March's memory, but anyone who gets done early should start on May's because they are harder again. There are no tests scheduled this week. Sports Mr. Anders said there was going to be a track meeting this week. He met with the students who signed up today just to talk with them quickly. General I hope all of you enjoyed to 3 day weekend. I enjoyed the teachers conference for LEA in Cincinnati. We are moving steadily into the 4th and last quarter of the year. Please keep reminding your child school goes to the end of the year not till the weather turns nicer. This is a relatively normal week. We probably won't have Spanish tomorrow, Ms Abate's mother passed away from cancer last Friday. The funeral was today. Friday is a dress down day. I don't know what the money is going for, just that it is a dress down day. Next month about the middle are the achievement tests. Easter is at the end of the month. Don't forget to return the report card "quarter" slip and the envelope by Friday. The Social Studies test should be in by tomorrow. They will get their Science and English tests this week sometime. Work Memory for Friday is Col. 3:13 on page 83. There will be a spelling test on Friday this week also and the list and project will be given to them on tomorrow. There will be a test on Ch. 6 in Social Studies on Wed. (we are switching Soc. St. and Sci. again) It is on the 13 colonies - who were the leaders settling them and why they were settled. I explained this to the class as to what they need to know. Everything they need is on the maps and the charts that are below the maps. We are starting Adverbs in English and later in the week we will be starting a chapter on Matter in Science. There will be a Math test on Friday this week. I am going to talk about lesson 87 but not do the work. There will be several other lessons that we will not do so we get the necessary lessons done by the end of the quarter. Thurs. is the end of the month and book reports and monthly memory are due then. Sports Sign up sheets have been put up for track. The 5th and 6th compete as a team. I haven't heard any information about practices. The meets are in May. There are 3 major meets on the Sat. in May and June. They are the League meet, Regional meet and the State meet. assignment update 3-21-11
Math - my class has lesson 83 and I think Mr. Anders' class has lesson 90 and a test.
Reading - WS 115 cursive due Wed. and they have to write 4 sentences using a multiple meaning word then they have to draw a picture using the other meaning of the word. They have paper for the pictures and sentence. This is due next Monday.
Social Studies - we filled in the chart for the Middle Colonies and they have to label and color the 4 colonies on the map for Thurs.
Science - test tomorrow during the Social Studies period for chapter 17 ( I want to be here when this test is given to answer questions about the test)
English - we graded the worksheet for today, but I had them keep it so they can review the proper adjectives that are on that worksheet. I will collect it with the test, I wouldn't have time to look at it and record it and get it back to them before I leave on Wed. Then there is a test on Thurs. for chapter 5.

Monday newsletter 3-21-11
General
Happy the first day of spring. But from what I heard on the weather forecast this morning the rest of the week doesn't sound much like spring. Don't forget this is a short week with no school on Friday. This is a break since it is so long till Easter and Easter break. I also will be gone on Wed. and Thurs. Mrs. Meseke, Mrs. Brown, Mrs Ramsey, Mr. Petzold and I are attending the LEA Convocation in Cincinatti. LEA is our teacher organization - Lutheran Education Association -like the NEA for public school teachers. Report cards will be sent home this week Thurs. Remember to sign the sheet for 3rd quarter that you saw the report card and keep the copy. The envelope and "Quarter" note should be turned in by next Thurs. March 31st. It seems there are signs of "springitis" setting in for some of the class so a gentle reminder that school work is still very important and one's best effort should still be put forth.
Work
Since there is no school on Friday there will be no Friday memory and no spelling this week. It is a good week to work on Monthly Memory. The 3rd memory should be done by or during this week. Next week is the last week of the month. This is testing week. There is a Science test tomorrow on chapter 17, an English test Thurs. on chapter 5 - adjectives and my class has a math test on Thurs. The Social Studies test was returned today and it needs to be signed or a note or email sent by Monday. March 28. We are settling the 13 colonies in Social Studies and that is a short chapter so there probably be a test on that chapter sometime next week.
Sports
Nothing is happening with "Trinity" sports at this time. The Upward Basketball program has their end of the season Celebration Night this Friday evening. Track will probably start sometime during the first week of April or soon thereafter.

Writing Workshop - They have received the chart for working on the Shroud of Turin paper. They are to decide what their opinion is about the Shroud is it real or not. Then with your assistance they are to do some other research and write 3 reasons supporting their opinion. They also need to write 3 subpoints for each reason. The subpoints need to be related to the reasons. These are necessary for Tues. Mar. 22 so they can be developing their paper.
Social Studies - I did not get the test graded last night, it will be ready on Monday. We started Chapter 6 today on the 13 colonies. They have to label and color the New England map. We did the chart together in class.

assignment update 3-15-11
Math - my class had a test today and we graded the rest of lesson 79 and half of lesson 80. I also posted any missing math assignments up through lesson 75. They have to have the corrections for lessons through 80 in by Friday for the 3rd quarter report card. Any corrections not in by then will become zeroes. Mr. Anders' class has lesson 86.
Writing Workshop - they viewed the video on the Shroud of Turin today, they did not have an assignment. Review what Mrs. Brown put in the Monday note yesterday.
Spelling - they received their list today and their project. They are both due on Friday.
Social Studies - we review today and there is a test on Ch. 5 on Thurs. They should study their note sheets and use their study guide sheet for questions to answer. The explorers will be "Who am I questions" if you want to help your child study.

Special Person's Day went well Friday. Thank you for any part you may have had in getting someone to come or to have participated yourself. The members from the class represented us well at the Lutheran High North Talent Festival on Sat. Some of them won and some of them didn't. But they all prepared well and did their best which them winners in their own right. This week will be an almost normal week, which we haven't had in quite some time. The one change is chapel/church is at 10:00 am on Wed and math is early. The end of the 3rd Quarter is Friday and report cards will be sent home on Wed. the 23rd. Any late, absent or missing work needs to be in by Friday.
Work
Friday's memory is Philippians 2:13 on page 75. There will be a spelling test on Friday and they will receive their list and project tomorrow. There will be a test in Social Studies on Thurs. They have their notes, a map and a study guide to use to study for the test. We will review tomorrow. There are a Science and English tests coming up next week or the first part of the following week. My math class has a test tomorrow and lesson 80. All lesson corrections through lesson 80 need to be in by Friday. We graded lesson 78 and half of 79 today. They received the information on how to do the March book report today. From Mrs. Brown: Your 5th grader has been given an intriguing assignment: decide if he/she believes if the Shroud of Turin is really the burial cloth of Christ, or a hoax. I've given the students a brief description of the Shroud, with some opinions for and against its authenticity. In class, we're watching "The Real Face of Jesus" DVD from the History Channel. That's just the starting point! I'd like your child, with your help, to do some research on-line to gather more information on the Shroud. Based on this research, I'd like your child to state his/her opinion about the Shroud and then fill in the chart (which will come home on Thursday, March 18) with three compelling reasons for his/her opinion, along with three subpoints under each reason. The subpoints must be related to the reason. We will use this as the basis for writing the opinion paper. Completed chart is due Tuesday, March 22nd.

assignment update/ reminder 3-11-11
Thank you for a great Special Persons Day. I hope all of the special people enjoyed the day as well. If you were not here come to the hallway Sunday morning after or before church or next week and see all of the wonderful things that are up for all of the classes. I didn't get out a blog Wed or yesterday. I apologize. Wed I just plain forgot and yesterday there was nothing due for today. But for Monday.

Tomorrow is dress up day for Ash Wednesday. We will be attending church with the congregation at 10:00 am tomorrow. You also are welcome to attend. There is also an evening service at 7:00 pm.
Don't forget to help your child to take pictures of a servant/ service activity they are doing for Thurs.

Monday newsletter 3-7-11
General
Thank you for the great participation at late service yesterday. The choir sounded great. It was wonderful having so many of the choir there. When that happens they sound like they do when we practice during the week. This is a busy week with Lutheran Schools Week activities and preparation for Lutheran High North's Talent Festival. A special "yellow green" note was sent home with all participants today about the Talent Festival. Please check and find it so you know what is going on. If you have a question, please call, come ask or email me. Also check, there is a special note from me today about a project for making a display for Lutheran Schools Week. If you have a question about that please call, come ask or email me. Don't forget if your child wants to bring a high school student to Special Person's Day I need a note or email from you saying it is ok for them to miss their high school classes. The class will get their "big fish" t-shirts tomorrow. We just ran out of time at the end of the day. Please help your child remember to wear it on Thurs. Wed is Ash Wednesday. Come and worship with us at 10:00 am or in the evening at 7:00 pm. This is the beginning of Lent which lasts for 7 weeks and leads to Easter. Also our offerings on Wed was a little over $200 for Plumpynut. That means our school has raised enough money to feed 18 children for a month. The class also did a wonderful job presenting chapel last Wed. I was very proud of them. It was a little shaky Tues. afternoon when we practice.

There is no Friday memory this week with Special Person's Day on Friday. The spelling test from Friday is tomorrow and the project is due also. We are still progressing in Science and Social Studies. There is a test in the near future but not this week. The solar systems really turned out great. A lot of wonderful ideas are displayed in creating the solar systems. Thank you for your help in this project. Do come in and check them out, they are in the hallway.
Sports
The faculty vs 7th & 8th grade teams was postponed to this Friday at 6:30 pm. They are trying to make it a family activity so the cheerleaders are involved from both 5th & 6th grade and the 7th & 8th grade. The lower grade pep club is involved. Those of us not playing are going to sit together on the floor and "support" our fellow staff members. So we would like to have all of you there if you can make it. I believe there will be some promotional activities for families to win Trinity items or even better.

assignment update 3-4-11
What a Friday. Sorry if you got caught in the come to school then go back home this morning. L'Anse Creuse called off school very late. I was driving into the parking lot at 7:15 when I heard it on the radio. The staff all made it in and was amazed but we got some much needed work done. Here are some reminders for Monday.
Memory - Friday's memory will be due on Monday

Solar System projects are due on Monday. There will be tables in the hallway for them.
Good News Choir sings at the 11:00 am service on Sunday. They need to be here by 10:40 am to warm up with Mr. Finazzo. Mrs. Scheiderer will be out of town on Sunday for something special with her family. They will be docked points if they arrive late. Mr. Finazzo needs to be in the church near 10:50 for the service.
Lutheran Schools Week is next week. There is a special dress for each day next week. Monday is "going fishing" day. They should dress like they would if they were going fishing. Tues. is beach day. Wed. is dress up day. Thurs. is the "Big Fish" t-shirt day and Friday is normal dress for Special Persons Day.

If you could, print a 4x6 print of the pictures that would be great. If you can't print them, email them to me. This needs to be done by Thurs. Mar. 10th. On Thurs. we will use the pictures and arrange them in the shape of a fish on the wall outside of the classroom. Thanks for your help in this project.

Another month is gone already. I and the 5th grade class are doing chapel this Wed. you are welcome to come and worship with us at at 8:20 am on Wed. This week is also the Book Fair. We previewed books today and we are going to buy on Thurs. You can also purchase books for your child before that if you wish. They are here after school. There are also some adult books that you may be interested in. Friday night is the faculty vs 7th and 8th grade boys and girls basketball teams. It should be an exciting evening. I have decided since I am officially a senior citizen and out of shape that I won't be playing in the game. I will lend moral support but not physical support. Next week is Lutheran Schools Week. There are dress down days each day and Special Persons Day on Friday. For Special Persons Day the person they bring needs to be out of high school unless you send in permission that they can miss their classes at their school. If you of the parent approve the absence from school then it is ok with me, but send or email me a note so I know.

Happy Valentine's Day. I hope you have a day and the rest of the year filled with love - Love from others and know you always have God's love with you. Thank you to those of you who shared valentine's with me. The taste buds will like it, but my waist may have a problem with it. I guess that means I'll just have to work it off. Today was our last STARBASE day. The kids have many things they have received from STARBASE that was sent home today.
Check and review the things, you will be able to see the different activities we did. The booklet should show you their recorded data. Thank you to all of you who drove or stayed as a chaperon. Parent - teacher consultation slips will sent home tomorrow if a conference was requested. Please contact me if the time does not work. I used every one's first choice time frame. Thurs. and Fri. are half days and no school next Mon., Tues., and Wed. Winter break - now that it is warming up. It is also Presidents Day on Mon. Midterms are being prepared for Wed. If you want a paper copy please email me or send a note with your child. Otherwise they are posted on Fast direct. You can also respond by email that you reviewed the midterm.

We will exchange valentines after we get back.

English - Write 8 - 15 sentences using a list of 15 nouns each noun needs two adjectives. They have a sheet with a list of adjectives they can use, but there are many other adjectives that are possible. This is due next Thurs.
Writing Workshop - they have to have their rough draft typed by next Tues. It should be double spaced and they should use Times New Roman font.
Spelling - we took the test today and they need to turn in their project tomorrow.

Please read it over and respond accordingly and return it by this Friday. STARBASE is this Friday and then the last session is Monday Feb. 14. We will exchange any valentines when we return on Mon. The Talent Show dress rehearsal is on Friday the 11th when we return. The dress rehearsal will start around 2:00 and we will come in on the end of it. Friday night is the Talent Show at 6:30 pm. It usually lasts around an hour or so. The t-shirt orders for the "Big Fish" shirts needs to be in by Friday. They will be one of the special dress days for Lutheran Schools Week and if they don't have a shirt they won't be able to participate in that days dress activity and will need to wear regular school dress.

Just so you all know, I did turn in my letter to the congregation last week telling of my intentions to retire at the end of the this school year. It should be in the next "Wise Cracks" that is sent to all of the church families. I know many of you already know, but I wanted you to be "officially" informed by me. It still is several months away and there is also a lot of important school that has to be completed before it really happens. Information about Pint size heroes is coming home today. If you or if you know someone who can donate blood on Tues. Feb. 15 please sign up. The state of Michigan has a shortage of blood at this time and they need everyone who can donate to come. They really stressed the blood shortage for Michigan. STARBASE is this Friday again. Don't forget to pack a lunch with a drink. So far everyone has had a lunch and a drink. They once again can wear the STARBASE t-shirt as a dress code shirt, but this week they would need regular school pants. Open house is Sunday, so if you know someone who might be interested in attending Trinity tell them about it. It is from 10;30 am to 1:30 pm. They can also come and visit during the school day on Mon. and Tues.

We are finishing up the test this week. We had an English test today and there is a Science test tomorrow (during the Soc. St. time). That will take care of the tests except for Math which my class will have a test on Wed. Memory for this week is Acts 3:19 on page 63 and we will write it on Friday when we get back. They will receive their spelling list tomorrow and the test will be Friday when we get back. Band's second day this week will be on Thurs. instead of Friday and Writing Workshop's second day will also be on Thurs instead of Friday.

There are two home basketball games this week on Tues and Thurs. That means if your child comes regularly to study time it will end at 4:00 pm on those days.

We are asking all of the students to once again to order a t-shirt with our theme on it. The "Big Fish" shirt is really "cool" Mrs. Moore designed the "Big Fish" and it will be silk screened on the front of the shirts. They are $3 and if you want one they are $6. Our color is royal blue and they are available for viewing on our web site. They will be a designated item to wear for one of the days of Lutheran Schools Week. We also will wear them for the school field day/picnic and for the walk-a-thon. So please fill out the order form and return it to the office by Friday Feb. 11th. They are also talking about making a CD of the song "Big Fish" written by Mr. Pirrone.

The "Big Fish" shirt is really "cool" Mrs. Moore designed the "Big Fish" and it will be silk screened on the front of the shirts. They are $3 and if you want one they are $6. Our color is royal blue and they are available for viewing on our web site. They will be a designated item to wear for one of the days of Lutheran Schools Week. We also will wear them for the school field day/picnic and for the walk-a-thon. So please fill out the order form and return it to the office by Friday Feb. 11th. They are also talking about making a CD of the song "Big Fish" written by Mr. Pirrone.

Monday newsletter 1-24-11
General
Thank you for the good turn out yesterday for singing for the Good News Choir at the early service. Please return the report card envelope with the signed slip for 2nd quarter by next Monday Jan. 31. STARBASE went well for our first day. We will go there for the next 3 Fridays. Our last session is on Mon. Feb. 14. Don't forget to pack a lunch and drink for those Fridays. For this weeks session, the instructor said they could bring camera's themselves. That is fine with me, but they are responsible for their camera. She said camera phones won't work for what they may want to take pictures of, but iPod or something else like that would work. They have permission to bring those if you have the type that takes pictures. As you can tell, I really don't know much about what I am talking about in terms of the technology. They also received STARBASE t-shirts. These can be worn as a "school" shirt on Fridays if they wish. They would need to wear dress code pants. We do have a dress down day on Friday so they could pay a $1 and wear jeans with their t-shirt.
Work
Friday's memory is Jerm. 31:31 & 34 on page 61. They will receive a spelling list tomorrow and we will take the test on Friday after we return. We have reached the end of many chapters and the tests are coming up. The Social Studies test for chapter 3 and 4 (information on the charts) will be this Thurs. We will review tomorrow and they will also receive a study sheet tomorrow. We finish the English chapter on Thurs. and we will review the concepts in lessons 8-15 on Thurs and the test will be next Mon. on Ch. 3 lessons 8-15 and some questions from the first seven lessons. We have also ended chapter 16 of Science, we will review for that Thurs. and Mon. and have that test on Tues. during the social studies time on the schedule. We just had a math test and that won't show up again until next week I think on Wed. Monday is the end of the month so Monthly Memory and the book reports are due Mon. This week Writing Workshop will be Tues and Wed. The Wed. is a make up date for missing it on Friday for STARBASE. Next week we will have a different make up time. Also Beginning Band will have band on Thurs. morning from 9:00 to 9:30, they need to bring their instruments on Wed. and Thurs. and not Friday. That will be like that for the next 3 weeks.
Sports
Nothing special. There is a home game Tues (tomorrow) so study time will end at 4:00 tomorrow.

Weekly newsletter and assignment update in one
General
With no school on Monday and a home basketball game on Tues. I am now getting to the "Mon." newsletter. Report cards will be handed out on Friday. Check the Trinity Leader for any owes or things that should be turned in so you can get the report card. Please sign the note that you saw the report card and return it with the envelope by next Friday. Friday is also our first STARBASE. Please remember everyone needs to pack a lunch with a drink for the day. There are no food facilities there. It can be in a lunch box or a throw away paper bag. The only thing with the lunch box, your child needs to remember to bring it back with them. It is a regular school day so school dress is expected. We return around 2:30 so we will do Friday memory collect anything that is due, do a spelling test on other Fridays and so forth. The new work and behavior policies are going into effect this week. Some of you may be getting phone calls if there is late work. Remember if there is a reason from home that the work is late, send a note so you don't get a phone call. If there is late work the student is to stay after school and finish the work that day. If there is a major conflict you can request the next day for your child to stay. The other detention is a behavior detention and that is served with Mr. Petzold for an hour after school. If there is more than 4 of either detention then there is a suspension. These detentions are also recorded on the students personal file in the school office. The other change that is occurring this semester is that everyone has to go outside at lunch time. So make sure your child has coat, cap and gloves if they want they want their body, head and hands to be warm. They need boots to go in the snow.

Friday's memory is Matt. 22:37-39 on page 59. The spelling test was Tues. Mrs. Brown has a message I will put at the bottom for you to read about Writing Workshop. My math class has a math test tomorrow (Thurs.) There will be a Science test next week and a Social Studies test is close behind. Language is also nearing the end of the verb chapter. We started Spanish this week. We will have Spanish class every Tues. the rest of the year.
Sports
Upward basketball is starting this weekend. There still is room if your child wants to join. Mr. Petzold was contacted about having a 5th and 6th grade boys basketball team to play in an Anchor Bay league. He will be contacting those of you have boys to see if you are interested.

Spelling - received their list today and they have a word search to do. The test will be Tues. because we will be gone next Friday. The word search is also due on Tues.
Writing Workshop - the class has a story planning sheet they need to fill out for Tues. They have been getting some information about what a cruise ship is like and so forth. If you can help them by letting them know what things would make sense for happening on a cruise ship do so. They will be going over their plan with another student on Tues. It is therefore very important that they have that done so they have something to share.

Friday is the end of second quarter, can you believe half of the school year will be over. All late and make up work needs to be turned in by Friday. I planned to tell everyone today if they had anything missing, but that didn't get done. I will do that tomorrow. If they have late work this week they will need to remember to get it in by Friday. The Spelling Bee is tomorrow at 10:30 am in the gym. You are welcome to attend. If your child is interested in performing for the talent show they need to sign up this week and the auditions are next Wed and Thur. Check and make sure your child has everything they need for the auditions especially for their music.

Friday's memory is Ex. 17:15-16 on page 55. The book version is shorter than the Bible (we read it from the Bible this morning) There will be a math test for my class this week. This test and lessons through 55 will be on the report card. The lessons will be on the next quarter. No other subject is near a test, so we will just be proceeding through the chapters. They did get the information and the paper for doing the book report for this month. That should be in their Reading pocket if you want to see what it is.
That is all I can think of at this time. It is short and that makes me think I forgot something, I hope not.
