Monday note Nov. 29, 2010

General
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break. I enjoyed mine with my friend from Minnesota. Now it is time to get back to work and get all of the myriad things done during this preChristmas time. Sometime next week we will decorating the room for Christmas. I decorate for an "old fashion" Christmas in that we string cranberries and popcorn for decorating the tree and we make paper ornaments. Therefore be thinking if you can pop come popcorn - unbuttered or purchase a bag of cranberries. I will be sending a note where you can volunteer to do that. The students also need a work shirt for that day so maybe be looking for an old shirt they can bring to school to work in. It can be an apron, but not too many have ever brought that. As part of the Christmas celebration, we have a cookie baking day to make the cookies for the class party. The mixing and baking day will be Thurs. Dec. 16 in the afternoon. If you would like to help with that, mark that afternoon on your calendars. A note will be sent home about that also. Then mark DEC. 8th for the band and handbell concert in the evening and DEC 15 for the school Christmas program.
Work
Memory for Friday is I Thess 5:16-18 on page 51. There will be a spelling list tomorrow with a test on Friday. The Science test was returned today. It should be signed or a note sent in by Mon. Dec. 6th. We started a new chapter in Soc. St. today and we will do one more chapter about explorers before Christmas. I am going to make sure the Soc. St. is completed and not start a new chapter in Science before Christmas. We will complete half of the English chapter and test on that 1/2 before Christmas. Monthly Memory for Nov. is due tomorrow and the Monthly Memory for Dec. is the meaning to the Close of the Commandments and the Introduction to the Lord's Prayer. The book report for Nov. is due tomorrow and the new topic is reading a Christmas story to the class. I will explain it to the class and I have a large collection of Christmas stories to choose from or they can choose on from home. They have to practice reading the book and be able to present/read it to the class. So the work is to practice the book, being able to read it clearly and smoothly with expression and to be able to show the pictures. There is no writing assignment with it. But it will start some time next week so we can get them all done.
Sports
There are practices this week on Mon. and Wed. There is an away game on Thurs I believe. On Friday and Saturday is the Spartan Classic. We host a 5th and 6th grade boys basketball tournament here this weekend. You may be contacted to help with some of the activities for the tournament or you can volunteer. I don't know who to contact but I would start with Mr. Anders.

That is it for today.

In His Service,
Deanna Hollrah
